The Secret to Staying Quick on Your Feet

September 27, 2026

Hi Reader!

This week, we're bringing out the Jump Board! Think of it as cardio lying down: you'll gently spring off a padded board attached to the Reformer, getting your heart rate up while the carriage supports your body.

Here's why we love it:

Jump board supports your bones. As estrogen declines through perimenopause and menopause, bone density drops more quickly. Bones respond to quick, springy loading, and the Jump Board delivers that in a controlled, supported way.

It keeps you quick on your feet. The ability to move quickly and powerfully fades faster with age than strength does, and it's what helps you catch yourself if you trip. Jumping trains that responsiveness, supporting your balance and confidence.

It's kind to your joints. Because you're lying down and working against adjustable springs, you get the benefits of jumping without any pounding on your knees, hips or spine.

It supports your heart. Heart health becomes a bigger priority as we age, and short bursts of cardio help keep your heart and lungs strong. You'll leave class feeling energized.

It's fun! There's something about jumping that makes everyone smile. Expect a little laughter - it's good for your core!

As always, your instructor will offer options so you can work at the level that feels right for you (jumping is always optional - so please listen to your body).

September 20, 2026 Hi Reader! Fall in Vermont means one thing for a lot of us: hours of raking. All that reaching, twisting, and bending forward can leave your lower back tight and your shoulders tired. Here are three Reformer moves to help you reset. Bridging (Pelvic Curl). Lying on the carriage with your feet on the footbar, roll your spine up one vertebra at a time and back down. This gently mobilizes a back that’s been locked in one position and wakes up your glutes, so they can share the...

Avenues Yoga Dear Reader What are you celebrating today? May 2 is a special day for me and I'm celebrating - I hope you'll join me! On May 2, 2009, I took a giant leap of faith and became an entrepreneur by opening the doors of my very own studio, Avenues Yoga, in Salt Lake City. Believe me, I was scared! I was pregnant with Ava at the time, and unsure of how to best support her. Should I stay in my University job, which I no longer enjoyed, but where I had security, a clear path forward and...
